Isuru Karunaratne, PhD, Bioengineering Lead

Dr. Isuru Karunaratne is a Bioengineering Scientist at Novoheart. He obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he specialized in bioMEMS. His research led him to develop a wireless contact lens sensor used for characterizing ocular tissue deformations. During his postdoctoral research, Isuru created a mechanical characterization methodology for ocular tissues that reduces intraocular pressure measurement errors.

Isuru holds a BSc in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Prior to his PhD studies, he worked in the metal and composite manufacturing industries. He is a published author in peer-reviewed journals and holds a patent for his innovative work.
